Affiliate programs for social media managers

By the Suara team · Updated 30 October 2026

Short answer: social media managers can earn from businesses they turn away by referring them to a tool or service through an affiliate or partner program. In October 2026, Buffer pays 25% for 12 months, Later 20% to 30% for up to a year, Metricool 25% up to $100 per user, and Suara (trysuara.com) 30% of a RM599 / US$149 monthly plan for as long as each business pays (first 20 partners; 25% for 12 months after that). Pick programs you would recommend anyway, and tell clients you earn a commission.

Earning from clients you can't take on

Most freelance social media managers turn away work. The business is too small for your retainer, the budget is too low, the industry isn't yours, or your calendar is full.

Usually that lead just goes nowhere. A referral program lets you send it somewhere useful and get paid for it:

  • The business gets a real option instead of a "sorry, I'm full".
  • You earn a share of what it pays, sometimes every month for a year or more.
  • You keep the relationship. If the business grows, it may come back to you for a bigger job.

Referral vs white label

Referral (affiliate or partner). You send the business to the tool or service under its own name. The business signs up and pays the provider directly. You earn a commission. You don't do the work or the support.

White label. You resell a product or service under your own brand. You set your own price, bill the client yourself and handle support. You earn the margin, but you carry the client.

Referral is the simpler choice for the "not for me" leads. White label makes sense when you want to keep the client and have time to manage them.

One thing to check: some programs don't pay you for your own clients. Webflow's affiliate page sends freelancers and agencies to a separate partner program and says clients' purchases don't count. Read the rules before you share a link with a client.

Which tools pay recurring commission

For contrast, Hootsuite pays 20% of the first month only on its Standard plan (it says more on Advanced), so it is not recurring.

A note on tools vs services. Buffer, Later and Metricool are tools: the business still has to make and post the content itself. That suits a business with time and someone to do it. A business that has no time needs a service that does the work.

Suara as the "too small for my retainer" referral

Suara makes finished Instagram and Facebook posts for a small business every week, in its own look and voice, from its own photos. The owner approves every post in Telegram before anything goes out. One plan: RM599 a month in Malaysia, CA$199 in Canada, US$149 elsewhere.

That makes it a fit for the leads a freelancer often turns away: a cafe, salon, barber, gym, clinic or small hotel that wants regular posts but can't pay a full retainer.

The partner terms (from trysuara.com/partners, read 30 Oct 2026):

  • First 20 partners: 30% of what each business pays, every month for as long as it keeps paying (no 12-month cap). After the first 20: 25% for 12 months per business. That is about RM180, CA$60 or US$45 a month per business.
  • Your first paying business pays you 100% of its first month instead of 30% (up to one month of the plan price), after a 30-day hold.
  • Businesses from your link get 2 weeks free instead of 1, no card.
  • Payouts once a month. Minimum about US$25 in your currency.
  • Suara free for your own business while you are an active partner.
  • Social media managers can refer businesses they can't take on, and their current clients too, as long as each business signs up through their link. You can't refer your own business or a business you run.

The honest limits:

  • It is a referral program. The partner page does not offer white label.
  • The program is new and has no payout history yet. Commission is paid only on fees businesses actually pay, and stops if a business cancels.
  • It makes Instagram and Facebook posts that the owner approves. It doesn't replace the strategy and client care a good manager gives bigger clients.

How to refer well

  1. Only refer what you would use or recommend anyway.
  2. Tell the business you earn a commission. The US FTC and Canada's Competition Bureau both expect clear disclosure.
  3. Match the option to the business: a tool if they have time, a done-for-you service if they don't.
  4. Don't send bulk messages to people who didn't ask. Suara's rules, for one, ban spam.

Questions

Can social media managers earn from affiliate programs?

Yes. Many marketing tools and services pay commission when you refer a business that then pays them. It works well for leads you can't take on.

What is the difference between referral and white label?

With referral, the business signs up under the provider's name and you earn a commission. With white label, you resell under your own brand, bill the client and handle support, and earn the margin.

Can I earn commission on my own clients?

It depends on the program. Webflow's affiliate program says clients' purchases don't count and sends freelancers to a separate partner program. Suara lets social media managers refer their current clients as well as businesses they can't take on, as long as each business signs up through their link and it isn't a business they own or run. Check each program's rules.

Which social media tools pay recurring commission?

Among the pages we read on 30 Oct 2026: Buffer (25% for 12 months), Later (20% to 30% for up to a year), Predis.ai (30% lifetime), Metricool (25% up to $100 per user) and Suara (30% lifetime for the first 20 partners, then 25% for 12 months).

Does Suara offer white label?

Its partner page describes a referral program only: the business signs up with Suara and you earn a commission. It does not mention white label.

Do I have to tell clients I earn a commission?

Yes. Disclose it clearly, in plain words. The US FTC and Canada's Competition Bureau both expect it, and Suara's rules require it.
